Though I’m sure many won’t admit it, most women I know believe that it’s possible to have an immaculate house. And what reinforces this idea is how, when they go to visit other people’s houses, they always find someone else’s house to be cleaner than theirs.

The problem is that they don’t see that it took these ladies hours of frantic cleaning before they’d even let you near their house. Couple that with the fact that this is the case every time you visit, and your mental picture of your house is probably of your house at its worst, and you have a recipe for disaster.

The Comparison

The root problem here is the comparison. It’s when you stopped looking at your house and your priorities and realized that your kids and your husband come first, and started looking at that other person’s house and and how clean it must be all the time.

Comparisons are always bad, because they’re rarely fair. Whether it’s comparing how smart your children are, how gifted in art they are, or how much space you have in your house, they’re all false comparisons.

We all come from different backgrounds and different circumstances. We all prioritize different things in our lives. We cannot get caught up with keeping up with the Joneses, and this is the female variety—comparing your skills as a wife based on what you see going on in someone else’s house.

The only proper measure is God’s Word and how your relationship is with your husband. Truly nothing else matters.
