“Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” — 1 Corinthians 7:5

As accepted as premarital sex has become in our culture, I think that’s as far as the opposite direction as a lot of Christians are with talking about it.

Think about it. You may hear people talk about premarital sex, but how often do we hear about marital relations and how important they are to a marriage? Sex is just as vital to your marriage as any other aspect.

That’s why I want to encourage you to take The Diaper Diaries’ 1 Corinthians 7:5 challenge. See how the challenge got started here and commit yourself to re-energizing your sex life with your husband.

Sex within the boundaries of marriage is not something nasty, something bad, or something that should be looked at as a chore. It is a blessing from God; it is in His word that we as wives have sex with our husband — and often.

So get involved! Take the 1 Cor. 7:5 challenge! I think you — and your husband! — will be very blessed for it.

"What is it about our society and porn? Why do people need it?" my old high school peer wrote recently in her blog. "But we promote this don’t we? We buy the magazines, we watch the movies, we google them. What horrible people we are."

I was a bit stunned when I read this blog, not because of the subject but because of her second question: Why do people need it? And the answer is this: We DON’T need it. Porn is an addiction that many men have that has ruined lives and marriages. And the sad thing is, WOMEN have told me, "Oh, it’s just a guy thing." No, no it’s not! I can’t stress that enough. This is NOT just some little habit that all men have.

I was highly disturbed when an old childhood friend came to see me and discussed her soon-to-be fiancee’s porn habits. I couldn’t believe how accepting she was about this sin!

We as wives — and as women — need to combat this disease and support our spouses fully if they are tempted by porn. I highly suggest you read "Every Man’s Battle" by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker. My entire perception of porn changed after reading this book. Some parts, naturally, are a little "icky," but you know what? Sometimes you have to roll up your sleeves and just clean the "ickiness" away.

Our society promotes women as objects: you see it everywhere — with attire, with the way women are portrayed by the media, and, of course, how women allow men to treat them. We are NOT objects! We are God’s daughters, which makes us pretty special. We need to teach our daughters — and sons — to respect themselves and respect others as well.

I went off on a slight tangent there, and I apologize. Look, the bottom line is this: If your husband does have a porn problem, it’s not just going to go away magically. It’ll take time, prayer, and counseling. Suggest that your husband talk to a minister or a close guy friend who is not struggling with this. We need to support our husbands and do our best to understand what plagues them, but when it comes to porn, few of us can understand the problem like another man can. Pray for your husband — pray WITH your husband. EVERY DAY. Fight against Satan’s stronghold by taking the battle to God. With Him, we always win.
