Lies Wives Believe
A Satirical Look at Married Life
Journals
I’ve mentioned before that I love Mark Driscoll’s podcasts. They are fantastic. If you haven’t checked them out, do so! You’ll really enjoy them.
Anyway, Mark mentioned keeping journals, detailing your spouse’s likes/dislikes/quirks/etc. And I was a bit miffed at myself.
I keep a blog that, in a way, tracks my day-to-day activities. I have a prayer journal where I jot down people or situations that need God’s assistance. I encourage my students (I teach journalism) to write daily to increase their detailed descriptions. I write novels (unpublished as of yet, unfortunately), spitting out about two or three a year. I write around three press releases a week. Even in my address book, I’ll jot down the names of my friends’ family members or favorite things so I will know them better. Yet out of all this writing, how have I NOT written down anything that will help me know my husband better?
It really astonishes me.
I’ve tried to do better, mentally (because I haven’t actually written anything down yet) of things that I’ve discovered about my husband in the past week. Sometimes it’s hard to learn something new about a guy you’ve been married to for years, but, if you listen closely enough, you’ll glean new knowledge.
My husband loves NFL drafts. In fact, apparently we had an NFL draft party our first year of marriage. I did not know this (about the party or his draft enjoyment).
I know that seems small, but it’s something I didn’t know before. It’s something new, something exciting, something that I know and can possibly use to serve him better…in some way relating to the NFL draft. Hmm…
And now, it’s written down.
