Lies Wives Believe
A Satirical Look at Married Life
Surprises/Ways to communicate
I am very lucky that my husband and I work at places that allow us to call each other at any given time – or, if not call, at least text message or instant message via Yahoo! Instant messenger. Throughout the day, we IM each other, ask each other how the day is going, chat about what to do for lunch…it’s not much, but it’s enough conversation that both of us feel together more during the day.
But what about the couples who are teachers or who cannot communicate throughout the day? I actually have a suggestion for that, too.
My husband travels a lot, and I actually picked up this idea from my mom because my dad travels with his job, too. While he’s packing, she’ll sneak a card into his suitcase so he’ll have something from her while he’s away.
I started that, too, with Hubby, with great results. He loves the cards. I really wish I could sneak homemade cookies in there, but I’m not sure how the airport security would like that.
I’ve also been doing something else, too, and I wasn’t sure how much Hubby liked it until recently. I teach on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so on those days, I would drive to Hubby’s work (which is not far from mine) and stick an index card between his car windshield wiper and window. The card would have a Scripture on it. I did this about twice (remember, I only teach Tuesdays and Thursdays), and Friday, I got a call from Hubby at about 5 p.m. “Hey,” he said, “where was my card today?”
He was so sad about missing his Scripture card! I laughed and quickly wrote him one so he would have it when I got home.
It’s always fun to get little “happies,” as I call them, and they can even arrive on index cards. Verses, little “I love yous,” a bag of M&Ms…anything like that always makes me smile and feel loved, so why shouldn’t I do that for my husband?
Another good idea is to sneak a treat into his car so he’ll have it when he leaves for work. I’m not really a memory morning person, so this doesn’t work well for me, but maybe it will for you.
What kind of “happies” do you leave your husband?
