Lies Wives Believe
A Satirical Look at Married Life
Do The Finances Together
When last we left Tricia and Laura they were discussing who in the family should do the finances—should it just be one person, or both.
“The truth is,” Tricia started, “That different people have different skills—you and Adam are supposed to compliment each other.”
“I know, but shouldn’t I be concerned?”
“You do the budget together, right?”
“Well, we’ve talked about having a budget, but—“
“But nothing. If you don’t have a budget then you don’t know where your money is going. If you don’t know where it’s going, you’re asking for debt. I come up with Adam’s budget for his detective business, and he has to stick to it—that’s part of the reason we’re in the black!”
“That’s true, you do a good job.”
“Don’t let yourself be locked out of the process, Tracy. Know your limits and your skills, get familiar with the process, but it’s fine if he does most of it—if you’re comfortable with it. You should be able to find out at any time how you’re doing financially without having to ask him, though.”
“Then, that’s what I’ll do.”
“And I’d actually encourage some kind of envelope system where you use cash to help control discretionary spending. You won’t believe how well you can save money if you control impulse spending.”
“Ok, Tricia, you’re beginning to sound like an infomercial!”
Tracy went home and she and Adam came up with a plan to teach Tracy what he does, and perhaps they’ll even start getting out some cash. What about you? Who in your family handles the money?
