Lies Wives Believe

A Satirical Look at Married Life

What Do You Mean, “Good Idea?”

A lot of times, husbands are bad at communication.  If we’re not merely muttering that we acknowledge what you’re saying, then we’re giving you sarcastic comebacks.  It’s something that we need to grow and be trained out of.  Seriously, communication is an art form, it’s something that grows between two people over time with use.

That’s why this latest piece of Husband Speak points right to the issue:

"Good idea." Really means….

"It’ll never work. And I’ll spend the rest of the day gloating."

What this is really saying is that the husband and wife have had issues before where she’s asked for his advice and hasn’t taken it.  This is something that’s really easy to do, since most times we already have an idea in  mind and instead of really wanting an opinion, we’re merely looking for affirmation of our idea.

If we really want to have input, we have to be willing to show that we will take that input and do something with it—or have a good reason for choosing not to listen.  Otherwise we’ve just communicated that we were just using them instead of respecting them.

And when it comes to guys, having your respect can be greater than having your love.
